Beyond the Page: Exploring beats and eats and everything in between!

What are we reading? I can't put down my latest book, Out of Africa, written by Karen Blixen (under the pen name Isak Dinesen). It takes place in Kenya, where Blixen owned and operated a coffee plantation in the early 20th century. The book is a beautifully written memoir, capturing her deep connection to the land, her relationships with local communities, and the challenges and enchantment of life in East Africa. It truly transports you to a different place and time – it's absolutely wonderful. I can’t wait to see the movie after.   What are we snacking on?  Kale Chips! Perfect for a healthy bite that’s easy to make and full of flavor. Just remove the kale leaves from...

Beyond the Page: Exploring beats and eats and everything in between!

What have we been listening to? We've been vibing to the smooth, timeless sound of Thee Sacred Souls. Their music effortlessly transports you to a soulful, feel-good place, blending vintage R&B, soul, and a touch of old-school funk. It’s the kind of sound that feels like a warm breeze on a summer night—sweet, nostalgic, and uplifting. Our favorite track? "Can I Call You Rose"—a tender, dreamy tune with soft vocals that melt into the rhythm, making you want to play it on repeat. You can listen to it here (just click on the track to listen):   Perfect for those slow, reflective moments or when you just want to unwind with something that feels both classic and fresh.   What...

Whether it’s draped over your shoulders or casually wrapped around your wrist, the scarf will become part of your routine. From quiet mornings in a cozy café to afternoons spent exploring museums and evenings sipping aperitifs, the scarf will be your constant companion. Each day will feel like a little adventure, wrapped in color and creativity!   Where do you wear your scarf?...

Beyond the Page: Exploring beats and eats and everything in between!

What are we reading? After a captivating visit to the charming coastal gem of Monterey in Northern California, I found myself drawn to John Steinbeck's Cannery Row. It's filled with eccentric characters, humorous situations, and heartfelt moments that capture the essence of life in a small coastal town during the Great Depression. Steinbeck's vivid descriptions and keen observations make the setting come alive, painting a picture of a place where ordinary people find beauty and meaning in the simple things. Monterey was once a bustling center for the sardine packing industry. At its height in the 1930s and 1940s, Monterey's canneries processed millions of pounds of sardines each year. The industry played a significant role in the local economy...
